Missionary Record 1907

EVENTS IN EMMELINE B. WELLS’S DIARY FOR 1907

5 March

In a notebook tracking visits to stake Relief Society conferences, EBW reported that representatives Margaret A. Caine and Mary Alice Lambert left on 5 March for meetings in Mexico. They visited sisters in Colonia Dublán, Colonia Juárez, Colonia Díaz, “and other places.”

24 May

EBW negotiated conference dates for the Arizona stakes. The Maricopa Stake preferred May, but EBW told them that was “impossible as it had been decided All Arizona Stakes would be visited in one trip on account of economizing means.” In a 24 May letter, her correspondent reminded her that “August will be very hot,” but EBW was working within a time frame the St. Joseph Stake had set.

21 June

EBW had to take train schedules into account as she planned for Annie T. Hyde and Emma S. Woodruff to meet with the Bannock Stake in Grace, Idaho, and then travel all night by train to Burley, Idaho, followed by a journey by wagon to Oakley, Idaho, for the 21 June conference with the Cassia Stake Relief Society.

29 June

The Bear Lake Stake in Idaho notified EBW of dangers: “Cannot have conference while river is so high.” Her notes indicate she sent copies of the Woman’s Exponent to that stake on 29 June.

7 July

EBW worked out train arrangements for the San Luis Colorado Stake conference, initially to be held 7 July. The stake secretary wrote that the sisters from Utah—Ida S. Dusenberry and Phebe Y. Beatie—would be met at the train station in La Jara, Colorado. The group adjusted their conference date to later in the month so the church visitors could continue north to meet with sisters in Big Horn, Wyoming.

14 July

In order for Mary Alice Lambert to attend two conferences, EBW arranged for her to leave Salt Lake City on the midnight train, Sunday night, 14 July, and hold a Monday morning session in the Blackfoot Idaho Stake. She would then travel from Blackfoot Monday night to Lincoln, Idaho, for a Tuesday conference in the Bingham Idaho Stake.
