[3]Jay Cooke, a Philadelphia banker, named his mansion Ogontz, after a Sandusky Indian chief. The Chestnut Street Female Seminary rented the building in 1883, naming it the Ogontz School for Young Ladies. In 1917 the campus moved to Abington, Pennsylvania, where, in 1950, it became part of the Pennsylvania State University system. It now is known as Penn State Abington. (“The Ogontz School 1850–1950,” “At Jay Cooke’s Ogontz Estate,” and “At Rydal, Abington Township,” Penn State University Libraries; Encyclopædia Britannica Online, s.v. “Jay Cooke,” last modified 6 Aug. 2019, https://www.britannica.com/biography/Jay-Cooke.)
