Sis. E. R. S. Smith “No mortal being can tell the influence the young ladies in this congregation can wield for good or evil; we hope, for good. The sisters who have spoken, have spoken well. Urged the girls to cultivate the talent of speaking; if you are willing, the Lord will help you. Women are now being sent on missions in the interest of woman. Be determined to do some good in this world, and not die and be forgotten. Related her experience on entering this Church; had been a member of the Cambellite Church. Exhorted the girls to get testimonies for themselves, and learn our true relationship to God. There is not one prin. [principle] of our religion but that is worth more to us than our mortal lives. Assist your mothers, become accomplished housekeepers. Admired Queen Victoria’s way of educating her daughters in all that pertains to housekeeping. We all have a mission to perform; we consented to have our recollections taken from us, when we came to this earth. You are born heirs to all the gifts & blessings, but you must seek God, & you will find him; follow the teachings of the spirit, & perform each duty, & we will be sure to fulfill our mission.[”] Related a dream [p. 218] that Bro. [Brigham] Young’s father [John Young] had. “God bless you that you may become noble, great, wise and attain to the fulness of glory.[”]

Sis. E. R. Snow Smith advised mothers not to let their daughters go to Salt Lake or Ogden to work. Spoke of the sin in some of our larger cities; also of parents sending children to outside schools.
