Sister E. R. Snow. Said it was a few that would do the work and save the many, but if all realized the importance of the duties resting upon them we would not have a house large enough to hold them. When Joseph Smith organized the first Society he said that none but virtuous women should be admitted, that all outside of it should <would> be considered disreputable, every good woman should belong to these Societies, not only to benefit the poor but to benefit themselves. She was proud to discribe to strangers our organizations. that they were not organized by men but through the Prophet of Gods Kingdom, and that they were to save souls to elevate and purify womenkind. Spoke upon the benefits that could be derived from taking an interest and grasping every opportunity of gaining intelligence, encouraged Mothers to lead their sons and daughters in the path of intelligence, have them read good books, and read the papers and [p. 298] become familiar with the manners of the world abroad that they might meet with becoming grace the intelligent Lady and Gentleman of the world for Zions sake we want to be as intelligent as they. Be encouraged in the path of rightousness Have the peace of God under all circumstances because God is training us and without this we would never be prepared for his presence. We are constantly having a change of circumstances and should always be on our guard, for without these change of trials we should never learn to control ourselves. Spoke of the “Womans Exponent.” said it was a good paper, it had a good reputation abroad, encouraged all to take it, and it would be published weekly.
