Sister E R Snow said she knew how annoying it was not to be able to hear a speaker, said she would endeavor to speak so that all could hear.
Said that when a speaker arose they should not be afraid of their own voices but should speak to be heard.
Said she was happy to be a member of this Society, was pleased to see and pertake of the social feeling that existed in the meeting, was glad to see so many young girls present. Said if God had been as silent in our day as he had been in ages past we would not have been here in this pleasant Hall today but that He had spoken and we were here to do his will. Spoke of the Societies of the world said they were of man while our’s was of God.
Said that this society had prospered, yet this was but the commencement, <said to> be faithful to-day and we would always be prepared for tomorrow—if we do our duty there is no power can deprive us of our reward—Gave instructions and encouragement to the girls. Said if we were faithful we had a right to [p. 59] claim the faith and blessings of the Ancients.
Spoke of the word of wisdom and the principal of plurality, Said that God requires nothing of us but that which is for our good, and that we ought not to feel that we could not do anything that he requires us to do.
Said that trials purify and ennoble us that it was a noble work to labor for the benefit of the poor that the time would come when we would have to find homes for them.
Said we should take all that comes from God and believe that He means what he says, that we did know what was before us and if we were faithful we need not fear. We should always encourage to do right and not let our sympathies lead us to give wrong council.
Mrs M [Maria S.] Burton bore testimony to the remarks of Sister Snow—
