John Gillespie was born on 27 March 1830 in Glasgow, Scotland, to Peter Gillespie and Martha Scott. He married Catharine Ross on 16 November 1852 in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory. He also married Hannah Whale on 3 January 1858 and Ada Amelia Cox on 16 October 1912. Gillespie served on the Tooele City Council from 1875 to 1877 and 1880 to 1881. He died on 9 February 1915 in Tooele.[1]
