James D. James was born 3 March 1816 in Victoria, South Wales. He married Margaret Williams in July 1841. He moved to Utah Territory in 1852 and then to San Bernardino, California, where he “obtained a large amount of gold” before relocating to Tooele, Utah Territory. James was a farmer and ore assayer. He died on 27 December 1901 in Tooele. He had a son named James, to whom Richards could also be referring.[1]
