Born in Whitridgebog, Roxburgshire, Scotland; baptized in 1842; immigrated to Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1843; arrived at Salt Lake City in September 1848; obtained property one block south of GQC’s in Fourteenth Ward; established first Sunday School among Latter-day Saints in Utah in 1849; served mission to India, 1852–55; moved to Weber County, Utah, in 1860; died in Ogden, Utah.
