Son of Newel K. Whitney; born in Kirtland, Ohio; member of vanguard pioneer company that entered Salt Lake Valley in July 1847; called on mission to Hawai‘i in 1854; in San Francisco when GQC stopped there on his way home; returned to Utah in 1857; participated in defense of territory during 1857–1858 Utah War; died in Salt Lake City.
