Francis Martin Pomeroy

1820 — 1882

Seaman, farmer, settler, born at Somers, Connecticut. Joined the Church in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1844. Moved to Nauvoo in 1845. Member of the first pioneer company to go west. Went on a mission to California in 1849. Served as Spanish interpreter for Brigham Young. Lived in Salt Lake, Weber, and Bear Lake Valleys. Set out with his wives and children for Arizona in 1877. Sent to colonize in Arizona and was one of the founders of Mesa, Arizona. Served as president of the Indian Mission from 1881 to 1882. Served as justice of the peace in both Idaho and Arizona.
