Mountaineer, trapper, born at Richmond, Virginia. Mentioned by GQC as having provided a map of a shortcut to California. Went to the Rocky Mountains in 1834. Companion of many famous mountain men. Spoke several Indian languages. Joined the Church in 1850 in Great Salt Lake City, becoming a personal friend of Brigham Young. Killed by Indians in Salina Canyon, Utah in 1865.
