Born in Charleston, Vermont; married William Clayton as plural wife in January 1845; gave birth to first son, Moroni, in Nauvoo, Illinois, in March 1846; news of the birth inspired her husband, who was then on the Mormon trail, to write the Latter-day Saint hymn “Come, Come, Ye Saints”; travelled to Utah in 1848; died one month after birth of her third child.
