Ordained teacher in Waiehu, Maui, in June 1853; chosen in August 1853 to assist Nathan Tanner and Thomas Karren at Kohala, Hawai‘i; returned to Maui in April 1854; helped establish the Latter-day Saint settlement at Lana‘i in autumn 1854 by transporting cattle to the island in a whaleboat and providing other needed food.
