Thomas Atkin Jr. was born on 7 July 1833 to Thomas Atkin Sr. and Mary Morley in Louth, Lincolnshire, England. He moved to Utah Territory in 1848 with his family and settled in Tooele, Utah Territory, in 1851. In 1856, he married Mary Ann Maughan. Atkin held civic positions, including clerk and recorder of Tooele County, and served as bishop of the Tooele Ward from 1880 to 1905. An adept nurseryman, he died in Tooele on 18 April 1919.[1]
