Born 20 Nov. 1818 in Rainham, Kent, England.1 Daughter of Stephen Hales and Mary Ann Hales.2 Immigrated with her family to York (later Toronto), York Co., Upper Canada, 1832.3 Married Joseph Horne, 9 May 1836; fifteen children.4 Baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Orson Hyde, July 1836.5 Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, Aug. 1838.6 Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Mar. 1839.7 Migrated to the Salt Lake Valley with the Edward Hunter/Joseph Horne pioneer company, arriving 29 Sept. 1847.8 Appointed as a counselor to Phebe Carter Woodruff, president of the Salt Lake City Fourteenth Ward Relief Society, 17 Sept. 1856; served as president of the Fourteenth Ward Relief Society, 1867–1881.9 President of the Ladies’ Cooperative Retrenchment Association, 1870–1878.10 Cosigned a letter to acting Utah territorial governor Stephen A. Mann thanking him for signing a bill enfranchising Utah women, 19 Feb. 1870.11 President of the Salt Lake Stake Relief Society, 1877–1903; treasurer for the Relief Society general board, 1880–1901.12 Presided over the General Retrenchment Meeting, 15 Nov. 1878, with Zina D. H. Young and EBW.13 Served on the executive board of Deseret Hospital, 1882–1894; EBW served as secretary.14 President of the Woman’s Store of the Woman’s Cooperative Mercantile and Manufacturing Institution, 1890.15 Died 25 Aug. 1905 at Salt Lake City.16
