Born 7 Nov. 1826 in Utica, Oneida Co., New York.[1] Son of Zephaniah Clawson and Catherine Reese.[2] Baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Joseph Blakesly, 1840.[3] Migrated to the Salt Lake Valley with the Brigham Young pioneer company, arriving by 24 Sept. 1848.[4] Married Ellen Curtis Spencer, 18 Mar. 1850, in Salt Lake City.[5] Participated in plural marriage.[6] Business manager for Brigham Young.[7] Comanaged the Salt Lake Theatre with John T. Caine, ca. 1862.[8] General superintendent of the Zion’s Cooperative Mercantile Institution, 1869–1873, 1875–1876.[9] Ordained a high priest; served as bishop of the Salt Lake City Twelfth Ward, 1882–1904.[10] Appointed president of the Deseret Hospital board, 1884.[11] Died 29 Mar. 1912 in Salt Lake City.[12]
